OSPOLY Mgt. Adopts e-Voting For SUG Election, Denies Having A Preferred Candidate
THE Management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree has adopted electronic voting for the Students Union Government elections in the institution.
OSUN DEFENDER noted that the management has also introduced party system for the SUG election.
This is just as the management refuted the claim that it was manipulating electoral process in favour of a particular candidate contesting the SUG election.
Some students of the institution had in a letter directed to the State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, accused the management and the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Tope Abiola and Chairman of Electoral Commission of plan to subvert the students union electoral process.
The students alleged that the trio have a preferred candidate who is presently unavailable in school for the position of the Union president, calling on Governor Adeleke and other stakeholders in the state to investigate the matter.
But Abiola dismissed the allegation, describing it as frivolous and baseless.
Abiola noted that those behind the claim are afraid of the E-voting system as it would not give room for any form of manipulation, unrest and chaos.
According to him, the institution does not have a preference candidate, saying that since the electoral body released its form and guidelines, some of the available offices have not been contested by any candidate.
He said: “The claims are baseless, frivolous and fictitious. They are frightened by the proposed E-Voting which would not give room for any form of manipulations, unrest, chaos and physical combats.
“The institution doesn’t have preference for any candidate.
“The electoral body has released its form and guidelines for the election, but up till now, some of the posts have not been contested for by any candidate.
“Their allegations are figment of lies. The general public should disregard the frivolities, while the students should abide by the electoral system operated in most of the higher institutions in the country like the Federal Polytechnic Ofa, Federal Polytechnic Ede, University of Ibadan, etc. I think the management should be commended for its awesome initiative.
“We are putting our machineries in motion to ensure that the election is hitch free. Our institution is technologically based, we are known for ICT and we should be able to prove to the world that we are ICT compliant. All stakeholders in the Institution, including the Alumini association is in support of the E-Voting.”
