10 Killed In Taraba Community
Ganfeto village in Daka ward of Bali Local Government Council, Taraba State, has been rocked by violent attacks, leading to the loss of 10 lives.
The community, at the time of filing this report, is still reeling from the shock and is in a state of mourning.
Taraba State Police Command’s spokesperson, Usman Abdullahi, confirmed the devastating news in a statement made available to Osun Defender on Wednesday in Jalingo, the state capital, where he stated that the victims are yet to be identified.
He also clarified that the assailants were not confirmed to be bandits.
According to Abdullahi, the assailants, disguised in vigilante regalia, specifically targeted individuals from the Fulani extraction in the village’s market, leading to brutal killings on the outskirts.
Abdullahi averred that “investigations indicate that those killed were from the Juldel group, a vigilante organisation.”
There are suspicions that the perpetrators belong to a different vigilante group, and their identities remain unknown.
Abdullahi highlighted the challenge stating that “one complication is that nobody has claimed the corpses of those killed.”
The urgency of unravelling the identities of both assailants and victims was emphasised by the police spokesperson.
The police command, however, has assured residents of Bali Local Government Council of their safety, urging them to continue with their daily activities.
Abdullahi concluded by stating: “We are working tirelessly to identify and apprehend those behind these heinous acts. Our commitment is to ensure the safety of lives and property in the village and the council at large.”
