South-West States Plan Education Summit
The six states in the South-West region under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission have concluded arrangement to host an education summit this year.
The summit, which is to be held in the first quarter of the year at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, will be organised through an institution jointly established by the DAWN Commission.
A concept note made available by the commission to read, “All Ministries of Education in the South-West States, State Universal Basic Education Board, Universal Basic Education Commission, Abuja; UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office; Parent- Teachers Association; Nigeria Union of Teachers; and Association for Formidable Education Development are expected to be in attendance.
“Other participants are: low-cost private schools’ group; Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria; Finland Ambassador for Education; Developing Effective Private Education, Nigeria; Town Unions and Groups in the Southwest Region; Southwest NGOs working in education and education related activities; World Bank; UNICEF.”
According to the document, the summit is aimed at fostering collaboration between governmental and non-governmental entities and creating a platform for open dialogue and joint problem-solving.
It also sought to identify and highlight successful practices in primary education within the South-West Region while identifying challenges affecting functional primary education in the Southwest.
