Again, Police Arrest ATBU Student For Possession Of Firearms
The Bauchi State Police Command on Wednesday said it has apprehended a 400-level student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Mike James Habila, for alleged firearm possession.
The student according to the police was arrested at the student’s residence in Gubi village.
This was coming after a 23-year-old 300-level ATBU student of the university was apprehended for a similar offence last December.
According to the spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, preliminary investigations showed the suspect had unlawfully possessed two firearms, a locally-made gun and a locally-made pistol with 9mm live ammunition.
“The recovery of the firearms occurred on January 13 when detectives from C Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the DPO, SP Abubakar Naziru Pindiga, acting on credible intelligence provided by a vigilante group, arrested James Habila.”
The statement further noted that the defendant claimed that the weapon belonged to Samson Irimiya, alias Zaddeos, who was previously arrested in possession of a locally made pistol on May 24, 2021.
