Adeleke Finally Axes Former APC Chair, Famodun As Owa Of Igbajo

The Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday laid to rest issues bothering on the sack of the Owa of Igbajo, Oba Adegboyega Famodun, and two other monarchs in the state.

Adeleke had on November 28, 2022, a day after his inauguration ordered the reversal of all appointments made by his predecessor now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, after the latter lost the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state.

Famodun, a former chairman of the then ruling party in the state, was appointed Owa of Igbajo on November 21, 2022, six days to the expiration of Oyetola’s tenure.

The now deposed monarch was immediately taken into seclusion, performing all the traditional rites prescribed by the kingmakers of the ancient town.

He was subsequently coronated and presented the staff of office on November 25, 2022.

But Adeleke reversed the appointment and that of two other monarchs, Oba Yinusa Olalekan Akadiri, the Akirun of Ikirun and Prince Ademola Oluponle, the Aree of Iree.

The directive for the monarchs to vacate their respective positions, pending thorough assessment of the processes that led to their selection, confirmation and installation as the traditional rulers of their respective towns generated controversies.

The government had promised to release the white papers of the committee report on Chieftaincy Matters, among other issues after several meetings and discussions held with all parties involved in the process.

In its decision, the Osun State Government nullified the selection process of Oba Oluponle Ademola, Oba Gboyega Famodun declaring that the stool of Oba Yinusa Akadiri, is vacant.
