Economic Hardship: Yoruba Nation Leads Anti-Govt Protest In Ondo
After months of silence, Yoruba Nation activists seeking self-determination for the Yoruba speaking states in Nigeria took to the streets in Ondo State, on Tuesday re-echoing calls for secession from Nigeria.
Armed with placards bearing varying inscriptions, the protesters called for the emancipation of the Yoruba Nation in the wake of the ongoing economic hardship and rising cost of living.
Osun Defender gathered that chanted various songs, stressing that if the Yoruba speaking states in Nigeria were to be a single country, the situation would not have been worse as it is.
They also urged the federal and state governments to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis.
The Yoruba Nation agitators bemoaned the state of the economy that has paralysed business activities and impoverished the people.
Reacting to the protest, a political activist, Aisha Yesufu, said the protest that is coming will not be announced because there would be no placards, no date set, and no colour combination.
She wrote: “There will be no placards. No date set. No colour combination. We will all find ourselves on the streets.”
