Adeleke Mourns OAU Zoo Keeper’s Death, Says It Is Agonising
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has said the death of Olabode Olawuyi was agonising, especially coming from a lion he has been feeding for the past nine years.
Recall that Olawuyi, a veterinary technologist under the employ of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife zoological garden, was mauled to death by a 9-year-old male lion on Monday.
It was also gathered that Olawuyi met his death when he attempted to rescue a female colleague who had been earlier attacked by the same lion.
Governor Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Thursday, mourned the late Olawuyi. He also sympathised with the management and the entire community of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife over the tragic loss of its long-serving veterinary technologist.
He said, “Mr. Olawuyi’s sudden passage is agonising, especially coming from a lion he has been feeding for the past nine years.
“I commiserate with the immediate family and everyone touched by the unfortunate incident. The government and the people of Osun stand with them in this moment of grief and anguish occasioned by Mr. Olawuyi’s unfortunate demise.
“I pray to God Almighty to comfort everyone touched by this tragic incident and grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“I also pray for the repose of the soul of Olawuyi while praying to God to fill the void of his death for his immediate family and everyone who depended on the deceased while he was alive.”
