A notice of impeachment was on Wednesday, served on the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu.
The notice was served by the Edo State House of Assembly.
The House proceedings commenced at 11.30 am Wednesday. The deputy governor is expected to respond within seven days.
According to a government source, 22 lawmakers out of the 24 have signed the impeachment notice making the eventual removal of Shaibu inevitable.
The impeachment notice is the latest in the rift between the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, who have been at loggerheads since mid-last year when Shaibu announced his intention to run for the office of the governor of the state.
