For strengthening and impacting the Sports, Culture and Tourism sector during his tenure as the Governor of Osun (2010 – 2018), the immediate-past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has bagged the maiden African Sports and Tourism Award.
Held at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Thursday, Aregbesola according to the organisers also merits the honour due to his pragmatic steps at changing the face of the state, through the advancement and innovative growth of the Culture, Tourism and Sports sector.
The former Governor in a post on his official Facebook page after the award, thanked the organisers for acknowledging his achievements.
He wrote: “Honoured and grateful to receive the maiden ASTA 2024 Award for my contributions to the development of the Tourism, Culture, and Sports sectors in the State of Osun during my tenure as Governor. It is a privilege to be recognised for our collective efforts in serving the people of Osun.
“Being the first ex-Governor to receive this prestigious award is truly humbling. It reflects the dedication and hard work of our team in transforming Osun into a beacon of progress and opportunity.”
The event was attended by diplomats and high level dignitaries including Amb. Mariam Morales of Cuba, Amb. Alberto Castelar of Venezuela, Amb. Auwal Wogriss Mohammed of Ethiopia, and Amb. Peace Nwakaego Onuiri, the Founder and Promoter of ASTA 2024.
