The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi has appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde to release funds for the completion of Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road project.

The appeal was sequel to the slow pace of rehabilitation work being carried out on the road to assist the contractor toward timely completion of the project.

It would be recalled that Governor Makinde and former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola awarded the 90-kilometre project (Osun, 55.4km and Oyo, 35.6km) in 2022 at the cost of N24 billion.

Speaking after inspecting some parts of the road including Egberi River bridge in Oyo State, he commended Governor Makinde for reviewing the initial plan to build culvert to a bridge.

He also lamented the slow pace of the project, pleading with the governors to release more fund for the contractor towards ensuring timely completion of the road in the interest of socio-economic activities of Iwo and other towns along the road.

“This bridge was not part of the plan, it was culvert that was designed for this place before until last year December when it was discovered that bridge is required for this place.

I must commend Governor Seyi who hurriedly okayed change of design from culvert to bridge. I must also applaud the contractor, Lanre Adeleke who has almost finish this work within the short period of time. But more need to be done towards ensuring timely completion especially release of fund.

Reacting to the questions on challenges around Osun section of the project, he charged Governor Adeleke to help the concerned communities towards ensuring completion of the project.

“Any issue around the Osogbo/Iwo/Ibadan road is between the governor and the contractor, I don’t know the modalities and how much has been released for the project. I am just appealing to both the governors and the contractor to come to terms to deliver this project. Roads are very important to the masses”, he added
