The Osun State Police Command has arrested three Yoruba Nation agitators for displaying their flags and promoting secessionist ideas at a market in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.
The suspects, identified as Fagbuyi Oluwafemi, 61, Joy Faseyeku, 63, and Alabede Janet, 64, were apprehended on August 27, 2024, around 2 p.m. at the Obada Market, Ikire.
According to a statement by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, the agitators were arrested while encouraging traders to support the Yoruba Nation movement and denounce their allegiance to Nigeria.
Fagbuyi, a native of Akure, Ondo State, was reportedly addressing the market audience, claiming that Nigeria ceased to exist after 100 years of amalgamation in 2014.

In the process, he and the others displayed the Yoruba Nation flag to further their cause. The police quickly intervened and arrested the agitators.
Following their arrest, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo for further investigation.
Giwa-Alade also confirmed that Faseyeku and Alabede were apprehended in connection with the incident in Osogbo and Ikire, respectively.
The police spokesperson reiterated that the display of secessionist symbols and public incitement are criminal acts that will not be tolerated in the state. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate development, five members of an armed robbery gang were also arrested by the police for allegedly robbing residents of Adeeke, in Iwo Local Government Area, Osun State.
The suspects were paraded at the police headquarters in Osogbo, where the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Giwa-Alade, provided details of their alleged criminal activities.
The robbery occurred on August 14, 2024, at around 9:30 p.m., during which the gang dispossessed residents of mobile phones, N20,000 in cash, ATM cards, and an army ID card.
