This success comes months after Adetshina made headlines for withdrawing from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest, where she had advanced to the final stage.

Her decision followed concerns from some South Africans who questioned her nationality. Despite the controversy, she represented Taraba State and went on to win the Miss Universe Nigeria title, securing her spot at the global competition.

Adetshina’s achievement is another milestone in Nigeria’s history of pageant success.

On November 16, 2001, Agbani Darego became the first Black African to win the Miss World title at just 18 years old. Reflecting on Darego’s impact, the article stated: “As the first Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria winner to win Miss World, Agbani’s triumph rippled throughout Nigeria and was a great moment for the continent.”

Darego’s success also coined the term “Agbani” as a reference to slender beauty in Nigeria.

While Adetshina narrowly missed the crown, her exceptional performance has earned her a place of pride and inspiration, both in Nigeria and beyond.
