Bowen University Student Dies In Suspected Attack

The management of Bowen University Community in Iwo, Osun State has announced the sudden death of a student of the College of Management and Social Sciences of the university who is suspected to have been attacked.

In a circular issued by the university registrar, B.T. Adetona, the student, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, reportedly died on Wednesday night.

According to the circular released on Thursday, the incident occurred around 8:20 PM when the student was found running towards the university’s staff quarters.

Eyewitnesses say he suddenly collapsed and hit his head on the pavement.

Further investigations revealed a deep wound on his abdominal region and bruises around his neck, which have raised suspicions of a possible attack.

Adetona disclosed that security officers stationed near the area did not report any altercation during the period leading to the discovery of the student.

Despite efforts by the university’s medical team, led by the Director of Health Services, to save his life, the student was pronounced dead later that night.

The statement noted that his personal belongings, including a phone, footwear, cap, and power bank, were found scattered along the path between the university’s power sub-station and staff quarters.

The university management confirmed that his last communication was at 8:01 PM with a friend at the old site of the campus, informing her that he had not yet reached his hostel.

In the wake of the tragic event, Bowen University has suspended ongoing examinations, with a plan to resume on Monday, January 27, 2025.

The registrar urged students and staff to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Directorate of Security Services.

The incident has been reported to the police and other relevant authorities, while the student’s family has been notified of the devastating development.

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continue, Bowen University management has called for calm within the community and pledged to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.

The management also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, urging the university community to keep them in prayers during this challenging time.
