Obasa Family Denounces Impeached Lagos Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru

The Obasa family of the Ikemo Ruling of Ojo town in Ojo local government area of Lagos State has denounced any ties with the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Obasa was impeached on January 13 while he was away from the country by more than two-thirds of the 40-member legislative house over alleged misconduct and sundry offences.

His Deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was immediately elected the new speaker, becoming the first female to take charge of the legislative body in the South West state.

OSUN DEFENDER had reported the political situation in Lagos State with Obasa’s ambition to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu being at the major end of the unfolding political tussle.

Debunking association with the ousted speaker, a former federal lawmaker, Hon. Tajudeen Obasa said he is not in any way related to Mudashiru.

He explained in a statement that the member representing Agege State Constituency originally hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State capital and not from Ojo town in Lagos State.

Obasa also added that he has not brokered a deal with the former Speaker to acquire a membership of the family root to advance his governorship ambition.

He said, “On behalf of myself, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Adekunle Obasa, and the Obasa Family of Ikemo Royal House Ojo Town, Ojo LGA, Lagos State. I wish to address and clarify the recent malicious rumors circulating about my alleged dealings with Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

“I want to clarify to the public that I, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Adekunle Obasa, born August 29, 1970, and a member of the Obasa Family from Ojo Town, Ojo LGA, Lagos State, I’m not connected with Mudashiru Obasa, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, despite his role as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and he is not in any way connected to my family root of “Obasa” In Ojo LGA, Lagos State.

“My political career includes serving as a former member of the Nigerian National Assembly representing Ojo Constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, Special Assistant to Hon. Oladipo Akinola Olaitan, and local government chairman of the PDP Union Group Caucus.

“On the other hand, Mudashiru Obasa, born March 11, 1973, is known for his role as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015 and he’s originally from Ogun State.

“The recent rumors falsely claim that Mudashiru Obasa has brokered a deal with me on behalf of Obasa family root to acquire a membership of the Obasa family root in Ojo Town for his gubernatorial ambitions in Lagos State for 2027 is untrue.

“It has also been suggested that this deal involves Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, also from Ogun State who allegedly influenced Hon Mudashiru to bury his late father in Lagos to avoid the alleged error of the current Deputy governor remains their business as none of the Obasa family root members is in the know of this.

“I want to also make it clear that these rumors are untrue, malicious, and unfounded.

“There is no agreement or transaction involving Mudashiru Obasa and the Obasa family regarding the sale or transfer of family root for him to claim which sounds very funny and fraudulent.

“If any concrete evidence emerges linking Mudashiru Obasa to these rumors, I will not hesitate to pursue legal action.

“I also wish to emphasize that my focus is on representing my people effectively, and I am committed to them,” the family explained further.
