Leaked Report On Arms Discovery In Lagos Assembly False – Obasa

The ousted speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has described as false and malicious a report alleging the discovery of arms and ammunition in the Speaker’s office at the Assembly Complex.

Online reports on Tuesday alleged that 47 pump-action guns were discovered by officials of the Department of State Services during a visit to the assembly on Monday.

Some versions of the reports claimed the weapons were found in Obasa’s office, while others suggested they were in the former Chief Security Officer’s office.

However, Obasa, in a statement released on Tuesday, dismissed the claim as a calculated attempt by his political adversaries to tarnish his reputation.

He accused the authors of the report of being desperate to discredit him, adding that the alleged discovery was nothing more than an afterthought aimed at legitimising illegal actions taken against him.

Obasa rubbished the claim, stating that it lacked credibility and was filled with inconsistencies.

According to him, the story relied on “phantom sources” and baseless fabrications designed to mislead the public.

He noted that if any such arms had truly been found, the security agencies would have taken immediate lawful action, rather than allowing a poorly scripted report to break the news.

He further revealed that the current leadership of the Assembly, led by Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, had since taken over his office after a controversial power grab.

He alleged that his office was forcefully broken into, ransacked, and later subjected to “spiritual cleansing” by the new occupants.

“For over a month now, she has been using that office. If truly arms were discovered, why was there no alarm raised immediately? Why did they wait until now to manufacture such a ridiculous claim?” Obasa queried.

The embattled Obasa, who disclosed that he had been abroad when the crisis at the Assembly erupted, reiterated that the matter was already before a competent court of law.

He maintained that the allegations were a diversionary tactic by those who orchestrated his removal, sensing that their actions would not stand the test of justice.

Obasa also accused his detractors of engaging in a sustained smear campaign against him, citing past allegations ranging from financial misappropriation to fabricated claims about extravagant spending.

He urged security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate the source of the falsehoods and unmask those behind the alleged conspiracy.

He concluded by warning that he would not be blackmailed or intimidated by political traducers who, according to him, were bent on dragging his name through the mud.
