I Lost Lagos Guber Election Because Of Peter Obi – Jandor
The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has blamed his election loss on the impact of Peter Obi’s victory in the presidential poll in the state.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, Jandor said the governorship race was initially a two-way contest before Obi’s unexpected win altered the political landscape.
“The 2023 election came with its own dynamics. Before the presidential election, the governorship race was a straight battle between two parties. But when Peter Obi won Lagos, everything changed,” he explained.
According to him, Obi’s victory created a perception among voters that the ruling party in Lagos could be unseated, leading many to shift their support towards the Labour Party.
“The moment that happened, people started believing that if we could win Lagos in the presidential election, then we could take the state itself. That wave swept through, and we became victims of it,” he said.

Jandor, who came third in the election with 62,449 votes, said his campaign put in the necessary effort, but the momentum generated by Obi’s victory worked against him.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 762,134 votes, while Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour finished second with 312,329 votes.
On Monday, Jandor announced his resignation from the PDP, citing a breakdown of discipline and widespread anti-party activities.
He accused some party leaders, including former Deputy National Chairman Chief Olabode George, of working against the PDP during the election.
