There was chaos at the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) in Lagos on Thursday morning as armed military personnel stormed the premises, assaulting staff over the alleged disconnection of power supply to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base.

The soldiers, clad in military uniforms, arrived at the electricity company’s office opposite MITV in Ikeja around 7:40 am.

Reports indicate that the disconnection of power to the NAF base had sparked outrage, as the facility has been without electricity for days.

Sources within the base disclosed that an agreement was in place for the military to pay IKEDC N60 million monthly in exchange for a guaranteed supply of 10 to 12 hours of electricity daily.

However, the disruption in power led to tensions escalating into Thursday’s violent confrontation.

It was learnt that staff and other individuals present in the office were reportedly subjected to beatings by the soldiers.

The Nigeria Police Force has since intervened, but the military personnel, reportedly led by a female officer, have refused to retreat.
