Osun LG Crisis: NULGE Throws Weight Behind State Govt, Asks Workers Not To Resume
The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees has backed the ongoing stay off work by members of the union in Osun State.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the local government workers have stopped going to work since February 14 due to the ongoing political crisis in the state over the control of local governments.
The crisis, which started after the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which reportedly reinstated the sacked Yes or No chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, has led to the death of at least six people, with many others injured.
While the reinstated APC chairmen currently occupied the secretariats, the chairmen elected under the People Democratic Party in the February 22 local government elections are working from home.

The APC chairmen had, after an initial threat, begged the workers to resume, promising adequate security.

However, NULGE national, in a letter signed by its President, Olatunji Ambali, and addressed to Governor Ademola Adeleke, a copy sighted by OSUN DEFENDER, said local government workers in Osun State should continue to stay at home until peace and tranquility can be guaranteed.
The letter read, “Your Excellency, we bring you warm greetings from the National Headquarters of our great Union. Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE)
“The Leadership wish to draw your attention to our position on the ongoing matter between the State and Local Government in Osun State which has been influenced by interest of various Political Groups. “We are not happy with the development however, it is not worth losing the life of any of our members in Daun State
“Your Excellency, the Union is also thankful to you for continuously paying the salaries of all Local Government Workers to mitigate the effects of harsh economy which has demonstrated good leadership we will continue to partner with you, Your Excellency
“However, the situation in Osun State will be keenly followed by the leadership; once we are convinced that the situation has improved tremendously, we will direct our members to resume work.”
