2026 WCQ: Zimbabwe Players Promised N300m Each to Beat Super Eagles

Zimbabwean players have been promised a $150,000 (approximately N300 million) incentive to defeat Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Warriors were initially offered the sum by their government as a reward for a victory against Benin on Thursday, but the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Now, another $150,000 has been earmarked as motivation for the team to pull off an upset against Nigeria in Uyo.

This development comes as the Super Eagles struggle in their qualification campaign for the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Nigeria has failed to secure a single win in four qualifying matches and currently sits fifth in Group C, trailing Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.

The cash incentive is seen as both a morale booster for the Warriors and a challenge to Nigeria’s football dominance.

With the Super Eagles under pressure to revive their campaign, all eyes will be on Uyo to see if Zimbabwe can capitalise on their struggles.
