At least three persons, including individuals suspected to be students, sustained varying degrees of injuries in the early hours of Monday following a violent cult clash at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

The incident, which sparked panic across the campus, was reportedly a fallout of a confrontation between two rival cult groups — the Buccaneers and the Supreme Eiye Confraternity.

According to credible sources within the institution, gunshots were heard around 11:00 a.m. within the school premises, leading to a state of pandemonium as students and staff fled for safety.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that one of the victims, a female yet to be identified, sustained a critical head injury and was rushed to a nearby medical facility.

Two other individuals, also believed to be students, were reportedly injured in the melee and are currently receiving treatment.

A disturbing video obtained by OSUN DEFENDER revealed a three-man gang armed with machetes assaulting a young man near the institution’s microfinance bank.

Multiple accounts confirmed that the violence was not random but linked to a simmering tension between the aforementioned confraternities.

Some residents of Iree claimed to have noticed unusual movements around the campus in the days leading up to the incident.

Security operatives were swiftly mobilised to the scene, and normalcy was gradually restored as of the time of filing this report.

Speaking exclusively to OSUN DEFENDER, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Adebayo Fedeji, confirmed the incident, stating that the school authority was aware of the disturbance.

“What happened was that two groups had a disagreement. The police are around. And the situation is calm now,” he said.

Meanwhile, the injured victims have been hospitalised, and the police have commenced an investigation aimed at unravelling those behind the attack.
