Protesters Storm Jos Over Renewed Killings In Plateau
Protests erupted in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Monday as residents took to the streets to condemn the continuous killings in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas.
Led by Christian leaders, including the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Polycarp Lubo, demonstrators gathered at the Fawvwei Junction community road, causing serious traffic disruption and leaving many commuters stranded.
The protests come in the wake of renewed attacks by suspected Fulani gunmen, which have left over 100 people dead in the past two weeks.
“We are not happy over the continuous attacks and killings by gunmen in our communities. That’s why we have come out again to protest these happenings,” said one of the protesters, Gyang Dalyop.
Another demonstrator, Hannatu Philip, urged the government to act swiftly to prevent the situation from escalating.
The protesters, carrying placards with various messages, marched towards the Rayfield Government House to register their grievances.
