Truck Crushes Four Easter Hikers In Gombe
A tragic road accident in Billiri, Gombe State, claimed the lives of four people on Easter Monday as a truck ploughed into a group of Christians returning from a symbolic mountain climb.
According to the Gombe State Police Command, the victims — two males and two females — died on the spot, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, and the General Hospital, Billiri.
Police spokesperson, Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, stating that the injured victims are currently receiving treatment.
An eyewitness told Punch, “The victims were mostly youths and children descending the mountain when a truck loaded with grains heading to Gombe lost control and rammed into them.”
The incident sparked outrage in the community.
Youths reportedly set the truck ablaze and stormed the Divisional Police Headquarters, demanding that the driver be handed over to them.
Security operatives have since been deployed to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
