A chilling tragedy struck the Ibagwa-Aka community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State as a self-proclaimed pastor reportedly killed four children of the same parents using a pestle.

The victims—Kamsiyochukwu Ezema (7), Ezinne Ezema (6), Ujunwa Ezema (5), and Chinedu Ezema (2)—were murdered in their home by the spiritualist, who is said to be affiliated with a sabbath church in the area.

The motive behind the horrific act remains unclear, but the incident has triggered widespread grief and outrage.

Chairman of Igbo-Eze South LGA, Ferdinand Ukwueze, who visited the bereaved family and the crime scene on Saturday, described the killings as tragic and vowed that justice would be pursued relentlessly.

“Our community was shaken by the tragic and heinous murder of four innocent children in Ibagwa-Aka,” he said.

He was accompanied by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and other security personnel.

Ukwueze confirmed that some suspects have been arrested while efforts continue to apprehend others involved.

The premises where the killings occurred have been sealed off by the council for allegedly being used for unauthorised herbal and spiritual activities linked to the suspects.

The children’s parents, Chinonso and Loveth Ezema, who were away during the incident, have demanded justice.

“We want the police to thoroughly investigate this and ensure the culprit is brought to book,” Mr Ezema said.

Efforts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as he neither responded to calls nor replied to messages.

Authorities have assured residents of increased surveillance and stronger collaboration with security agencies to prevent future tragedies.
