I Lost My Wife While Preaching the Gospel – Pastor Kumuyi
The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has revealed that his late wife, Abiodun Kumuyi, died while he was away ministering, blaming his absence for the tragedy and describing his continued global evangelism as an act of “revenge” against the devil.
Abiodun passed away on April 11, 2009, at the age of 57, after a brief illness. The couple had been married since September 13, 1980, and had two children, Jeremiah and John. Kumuyi later remarried in London on October 13, 2010.
Speaking during the Global Workers’ Conference at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre, Kumuyi said the devil exploited his absence that fateful Saturday in 2009.
“I was preaching here on Saturday, 11th April 2009, and the devil worked on my absence. My wife was at home because she had a challenge. I was driving out, the devil came, but I did not remember to close the spiritual door… and when I finished the Faith Clinic that morning, I received a message that my beloved wife was gone,” he recounted.
He added that upon rushing home to IBTC, he met people praying and received assurance from God to let go of the loss.
Despite the pain, Kumuyi said he chose not to wallow in sorrow but to convert the tragedy into spiritual zeal.
He described his intensified evangelical efforts as a means of avenging the loss.
“Since that time, for me to revenge on the devil, I have gone to many places… I have covered most of the local governments in Nigeria, almost all the nations of Africa, all continents of the world. Blind eyes have opened, deaf ears have opened, the lame have risen and walked. Now I am getting to another level — the dead has now been raised,” he declared.
Kumuyi emphasised that he is now determined to remain spiritually vigilant and assured that such tragedy would not happen again in his household or ministry.
“Those that have gone have gone… now in your family, you will be in charge. Anywhere I go now, I will be in charge. Nothing will be allowed to steal anything away,” he said.
