Former Senate President and PDP Reconciliation Committee Chairman, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party will bounce back in 2027, saying he is doing his best to revive the opposition party.

Speaking at his constituency office in Ajikobi, Ilorin, on Tuesday, Saraki addressed party members participating in the ongoing re-registration exercise.

He expressed optimism that the PDP has enough time to resolve its leadership crisis before the next general elections.

“I want to use this opportunity to reassure our members across the country that we are doing our best to rescue the situation of the party,” Saraki said.

“We are confident that we will tackle the situation. We are committed to it. Because we are all committed to fledgling democracy, and a fledgling democracy means a vibrant opposition. We all have to make personal and group sacrifices for the interest of the country.”

Saraki noted the high turnout of new and returning members across the country, attributing the enthusiasm to the economic hardship facing Nigerians.

“People are coming out to register for the party. People are tired of the state of affairs. New members are joining. All our old members are very active. The numbers are impressive.”

He added that the current insecurity, unemployment, hunger, and absence of governance are driving many Nigerians to embrace the PDP.

The former Kwara State governor and ex-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum said PDP remains the only viable opposition party and stressed the need for unity within its ranks.

“People are coming out to be associated with PDP. They want people to know they’re PDP members. That tells us that people are still in love with the party at the grassroots level,” he said.

Saraki expressed hope that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for the end of June, would help address internal disputes, noting that efforts are already underway to reconcile warring factions.

“We started early, we have two more years. We have time to know those who will stay and rebuild the party. Some might go, others will join. Once there is stability at the top, we’ll begin to see a better future for PDP.”

He concluded by thanking Nigerians for their patience with the party, promising that better days lie ahead.
