The APC said Governor Adeleke should not bother to defect to its fold, noting that there is no space for the Governor in the party.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has raised the alarm over what it described as the “state-sponsored oppression” and “rising tyranny” under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing the government of using the Osun State Security Network, known as Amotekun Corps, to target and oppress opposition members across the state.

A statement released after a press conference held on Wednesday at the Ilerioluwa Campaign Office in Osogbo, the APC called for the immediate and unconditional release of traditional chiefs allegedly arrested and detained illegally by the Amotekun Corps in Itaapa, Atakumosa East Local Government Area.

The Osun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Igbalawole Sotiyo, has assured residents of the state of adequate security during this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.

Sotiyo also ordered a strategic deployment of 1,550 personnel to cover all nooks and crannies of the state, which includes praying grounds, critical national assets and infrastructure, recreational centres and other public places, for a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Tension flared in the Itaapa community of Atakumosa-East Local Government Area of Osun State on Wednesday as irate residents staged a protest against the alleged indiscriminate arrest and detention of community leaders by operatives of the Amotekun Corps.

The demonstrators, wielding placards with inscriptions such as “Embarrassment, Amotekun De-robed Our Chiefs”, “Osun Amotekun Has Become a Political Tool”, and “Amotekun Supporting Criminals”, marched to the command headquarters of the corps, demanding the release of their detained chiefs.
