PDP To Tinubu: Redeem Your Image In Last Two Years, End Reckless Borrowing
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, urging him to use the remaining two years of his tenure to repair his image by prioritising the welfare of Nigerians and halting reckless financial practices.
In a statement issued on Friday in commemoration of Eid-el-Kabir, the PDP accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of plunging Nigeria into deeper economic hardship and insecurity through mismanagement and unsustainable borrowing.
In the statement signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party said, “Our Party is deeply disturbed by the pervading sense of gloom in the country; the worsening insecurity where our nation has become a large killing field with citizens left at the mercies of terrorists, bandits and marauders; the unbearable economic hardship and agonising life-discounting experiences all resulting from the reckless mismanagement of national resources by the insensitive APC administration.”
It continued, “The APC administration must immediately end the mortgaging of our nation through reckless borrowing that cannot be tied to any corresponding life-enhancing project or programme in the country.”
The PDP called on the Tinubu-led government to “end their profligacy, exploitation, deceit and manipulations that have brought untold hardship to Nigerians.”
The party further demanded the recovery of public funds allegedly looted by APC leaders, “Instead, the APC government must take immediate step to recover the over N30 trillion reportedly stolen by known APC leaders through various fraudulent oil deals and other funds frittered from government agencies under the APC administration.”
“Such stolen funds must be recovered and channelled towards the provision of critical infrastructure, revamping the productive sector and enhancing the operations of our security agencies.”
While congratulating Nigerians on the Eid celebration, the PDP urged citizens to stay hopeful despite the harsh realities, “The PDP charges Nigerians not to give up hope but remain patriotic, continue to share with one another at this trying time and pray constantly for God’s divine intervention in the affairs of the nation.”
The party concluded with a direct message to President Tinubu, “Our party therefore urges President Tinubu to use the remaining two years of his administration to redeem his image as a leader by being more sensitive towards the wellbeing of Nigerians in line with the demand for selflessness and submission to the Will and Command of the Almighty Allah which the Eid-el-Kabir teaches.”
