North Central APC Urges Plateau Governor To Join Party Ahead Of 2027

The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum has again called on Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC, citing a directive from the party’s national leadership.

Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, made the appeal in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday.

Zazzaga described Mutfwang as a progressive, stating that the move would strengthen the APC’s base in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Our campaign is based on a directive from above. Governor Caleb Mutfwang is a progressive, and we believe he belongs in our great party, the APC,” he said.

He warned against resistance from APC leaders in Plateau, stressing that such opposition would be counterproductive.

“Those who have constituted themselves as cogs in the wheel of progress must tread with caution,” he added.

Amid accusations of anti-party conduct from some stakeholders and calls for the convener’s suspension, the Forum maintained that its efforts were in line with the APC’s broader goals.

“Calling on a sitting governor to join the APC is not anti-party activity. On the contrary, it should be commended by all who want the party to grow,” the statement read.

The Forum argued that attracting progressive figures like Mutfwang would boost the APC’s appeal and promote development in the North-Central zone.

Referencing recent defections by governors from Delta and Akwa Ibom states, Zazzaga urged stakeholders not to let Plateau lag behind in what he described as a “wave of political realignment sweeping the country.”
