REPORT: In Two Years, Tinubu Names Six Institutions After Himself
Two years into his presidency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has etched his name into Nigeria’s capital city with the renaming of at least six public institutions and national edifices in his honour.
From a newly built military barracks to the iconic International Conference Centre, Abuja is steadily being lined with structures bearing the president’s name.
1. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, Abuja
Located in the Asokoro district of Abuja, the modern military accommodation was inaugurated and named after Tinubu on 23rd January, 2025 by the Nigerian Army as part of its efforts to expand troop housing.
2. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Abuja
This was announced on 16th January, 2025 by the Federal Ministry of Education. The new polytechnic situated in Gwarinpa was formally named after the President.
3. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC)
The Federal Ministry of Interior on December 2024 commissioned this state-of-the-art innovation hub for the Nigeria Immigration Service, branding it after the President as a nod to his digital economy drive.
4. Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu Building (National Assembly Library)
On the first anniversary of Tinubu’s administration, the National Assembly on 29th May, 2024 renamed its legislative research centre to honour him.
5. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
The renaming of a major route in the Central Area of Abuja, previously part of Southern Parkway, was quietly implemented on March 2024 , though it attracted public reactions when signage was unveiled.
6. Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre
Most recently, the prestigious International Conference Centre (ICC) was on June 10th, 2025 renamed in honour of the President.
