Air India Cancels Ahmedabad–London Flight Over Technical Glitch Days After Fatal Crash
Air India has cancelled another flight from Ahmedabad to London following the detection of a technical fault during routine pre-departure checks.
The cancelled service, Flight AI159, was scheduled to depart Ahmedabad at 1:10pm local time on Tuesday and arrive at London Gatwick Airport by 6:25pm.
It was operated using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the same model involved in last Thursday’s crash that killed 241 passengers.
According to CNN News18, the aircraft had earlier arrived from New Delhi before the technical issue was discovered, leading to the cancellation and stranding of passengers at the airport.
AI159 is the renamed version of the former AI171 route, which crashed into a residential neighbourhood last week. Only one person—40-year-old British father Vishwash Kumar Ramesh—survived the tragedy.
Following the crash, authorities launched safety inspections on all Air India Dreamliners.
The doomed AI171 had carried 53 British citizens, 159 Indians, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian.
Flight data shows another AI159 flight completed the route a day earlier, though it experienced a delay of around three hours.
Reports say at least one person on board that flight had originally booked on the ill-fated AI171 but changed plans at the last minute.
