Family Kicks Against Burial of Abia Monarch Without Autopsy
The family of late Eze Samuel Ajiri, traditional ruler of Ntalakwu-Oboro in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, has opposed plans to bury him without an autopsy and full consent of his immediate family and traditional council.
In a petition to the Inspector General of Police, filed by Mr Joseph Igwe of M.O. Ubani SAN & Co., the family demanded a thorough investigation into the monarch’s death and burial arrangements.
The petition, submitted on behalf of the monarch’s first son and heir, Prince Dike Ajiri, questioned the delay in announcing the death and called for a post-mortem to establish the true cause of death.
According to the petition dated June 9, 2025, the monarch allegedly died in September 2024 while staying with his second wife, Chinwe Ajiri, in Port Harcourt.
However, the family claimed they were only informed in January 2025, raising suspicions over the circumstances surrounding the monarch’s death.
Prince Ajiri pointed to discrepancies in official records, noting that while the death certificate was dated December 2024, a mortuary tag reportedly bore a September 2024 date.
The family has insisted that no burial should take place until a proper autopsy is conducted.
