Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has stated that the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, committed a criminal offence by brandishing a stun gun to threaten another person.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV on Thursday, Jimoh said even if Adefarasin had used a wooden object fashioned like a gun to instill fear, it would still qualify as a crime under the Nigerian Firearms Act.

“Nothing is an offence under the law except what the law states to be an offence. Even under the Firearms Act, if you fashion out anything that is not metal, like wood, and you make it look like a gun, and you use that guise to take possession of property from another person, you have committed armed robbery. So, pointing a stun gun at another individual and sending threat and fear to such a person at that particular time constitutes an offence,” the police commissioner explained.

Jimoh said the police were handling the case strictly within the law and confirmed that the clergyman remains under investigation.

His comment came amid attempts by House on the Rock Church to defend Adefarasin’s action, claiming the stun gun was not illegal and accusing the police of unprofessionalism.

The church noted that Pastor Adefarasin is cooperating fully with the investigation and expressed confidence that he would be cleared once the facts are examined.

OSUN DEFENDER had earlier reported how the pastor pulled out a pistol-shaped object and warned a car spotter to stop filming his unregistered Range Rover.

Adefarasin denied owning a firearm, describing the car spotter as an “aggressive content creator.”

Social media users have since demanded that he clarify what exactly he was holding in the viral video.
