Iran-Israel War: Stranded Nigerians Accuse Embassy Officials Of Neglect
As tensions escalate in the Middle East following the outbreak of hostilities between Iran and Israel, a group of Nigerians stranded in Tehran has raised alarm over alleged abandonment by officials of the Nigerian Embassy in the Islamic Republic.
In a viral video circulating across social media platforms, a visibly distressed Nigerian man was seen standing in front of the embassy building in Tehran, lamenting what he described as a total absence of diplomatic personnel during a time of emergency.
He said, “We came to the Nigerian Embassy here in Tehran in respect to the situation, as it has been informed that all residents should be evacuated. But there’s nobody here. They have all abandoned us.”
The man went further to claim that the embassy staff, including the Nigerian Ambassador, had allegedly fled to a nearby island for their own safety, leaving citizens to grapple with fear and uncertainty amidst a worsening security environment.
“They have all gone to an island, that is where they are now,” he alleged.

Reacting to the growing concerns, the Nigerian Government on Tuesday said it was finalising plans for the emergency evacuation of its citizens in Iran and Israel.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, arrangements were underway in collaboration with the embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran to coordinate the safe return of affected Nigerians.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform that following the escalation of the crisis between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Government is finalising arrangements for the emergency evacuation of stranded Nigerians in both countries,” the statement read in part.
It added that Nigerians in the affected regions should comply strictly with local security directives and register with the nearest embassy or consulate for further instructions.
The ministry also praised the dedication of diplomatic staff in the two countries and reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians abroad.
