Nine Unexploded Devices Recovered After Kano Blast — Police
The Kano State Police Command has recovered nine unexploded ordnances from the site of last week’s explosion at Yongxing Steel Company, along Ring Road in Mariri.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the explosion was triggered by a UXO (unexploded ordnance) and not an improvised explosive device as initially speculated.
“In addition to the earlier seven recovered UXOs, two more were found, bringing the total to nine,” the statement said.
According to police investigations, the devices were unknowingly transported along with scrap metal from Yobe State and one detonated accidentally during offloading at the company’s premises.
The command urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic, assuring that “there is no imminent security threat.” It also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, extended condolences to the families of the five deceased victims and wished a quick recovery to those injured and currently receiving treatment at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
President Bola Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, condemned the explosion, describing it as a “cowardly” act and expressing deep sorrow over the lives lost.
