Trump Announces Iran-Israel Ceasefire Amid Ongoing Strikes
US President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, as hostilities between the two nations enter the twelfth day.
In a statement on Monday, Trump said both sides agreed to end hostilities within 24 hours, with Iran beginning the truce in the first 12 hours and Israel to follow.
He described the deal as a “major diplomatic breakthrough” aimed at preventing further devastation in the Middle East.
“The war could have lasted years and destroyed the entire region—but it didn’t, and it never will,” he said.
Trump, a strong backer of Israel, praised the leaders of both nations for showing “stamina, courage, and intelligence,” adding, “God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and God bless the world.”
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the ceasefire announcement came after nearly two weeks of intense fighting, including missile strikes and air raids that stoked fears of a wider war.
However, the truce was quickly tested.
Just hours before the ceasefire was to begin, Iranian missiles struck Beersheba in southern Israel, killing at least five civilians and injuring over 20 others.
Israel accused Iran of violating the agreement and responded with strikes on targets in Tehran.
Iran denied breaching the terms, claiming its operations had ended before the ceasefire window began.
As air raid sirens blared in northern Israel early Tuesday, the deal’s future remained uncertain.
Despite the tension, global markets reacted positively, with oil prices falling slightly and investor confidence showing signs of recovery.
Qatar, believed to have played a key role in back-channel talks, called on both sides to uphold the agreement.
European and NATO leaders urged restraint and warned that further violence could trigger severe consequences for the region and beyond.
Talks between Iran and European powers resumed in Geneva, focusing on nuclear de-escalation and broader peace efforts.
The conflict began with Israeli and US strikes on suspected Iranian nuclear sites, prompting retaliatory attacks from Iran—including missile launches at the US-run Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Those attacks caused no casualties but heightened regional tensions.
As of press time, both Israel and Iran remain on high alert, trading accusations and denials.
While Trump insists the war is over, experts warn the next few hours will determine whether the ceasefire holds or collapses into renewed conflict.
