A woman has accused the Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon Oluokun Olusola Peter, of ordering her arrest over a Facebook post about newly commissioned shops.

Alake Iya Pedro, who made the post on May 29, claimed five new shops had been commissioned at the Seyi Makinde Shopping Complex.

She urged residents to rush to the local government secretariat, saying they might be lucky to secure one.

The post allegedly angered the council authorities.

In a follow-up post on Tuesday, Alake said the chairman, along with his executive and legislative members, ordered her arrest.

She said a petition to the Area Commander accused her of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and cyber mocking.

According to her, she was arrested on Monday and detained.

She added that she was taken to court on Tuesday for alleged defamation.

“This morning I will be charged to court for defamation of character. The Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Oluokun Olusola Peter, his executive members, and legislative members ordered my arrest yesterday because of the attached post on social media.”

As of press time, the exact charges and the outcome of the court proceedings are yet to be made public.
