NAPTIP Declares Speed Darlington Wanted For Alleged Rape, Cyberbullying

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has declared controversial Nigerian musician, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, wanted over allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.

According to the agency, the charges stem from a viral Instagram video in which Speed Darlington allegedly claimed to have had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl and gave her ₦2,000 afterwards.

NAPTIP’s Director-General, Binta Bello, described the situation as highly serious, particularly due to the involvement of a minor. She said the agency began investigating the matter after receiving reports of the video.

The alleged offences, if confirmed, fall under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as well as the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The agency has released a wanted flyer with Speed Darlington’s image and urged the public to provide credible information on his whereabouts.

“The public is hereby notified that the individual whose photograph appears above is wanted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in connection with alleged offences of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking,” the notice read.

Although NAPTIP had earlier summoned the singer for questioning, he failed to honour the invitation.

Speed Darlington has denied the allegations, saying the viral video was only meant for entertainment and educational purposes.

Meanwhile, civil society organisations and child rights advocates have called for a transparent investigation and due process in handling the matter.
