Blogger Detained After Accusing Kogi LG Chairman Of Hoarding Motorcycles
Shade Kakun, a blogger, has been arrested and detained by the police in Kabba, Kogi State, over a Facebook post accusing the Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government, Zacchaeus Dare Michael, of diverting motorcycles meant for distribution.
Kakun had alleged that the chairman received 15 motorcycles under Governor Usman Ododo’s administration but delivered only one.
The post, which was later deleted, led to his arrest, and he has now spent seven days in custody at the Kabba Police Station.
Prince Godwin, who identified himself as Kakun’s brother, condemned the arrest, describing it as an abuse of power.
“This is a civil matter, yet he’s being punished like a criminal. This is unjust, inhumane, and a clear abuse of power. We demand his immediate release and justice! #FreeTheInnocent #SayNoToOppression #JusticeForAll,” he wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
In another post, he added, “I will not sit and watch 501 dehumanise my own brother Shade Kakun by asking a question. I will not. NEVER.”
Before his arrest, Kakun had shared a Facebook update on June 30 alleging that a man named Omofa Kayode John brought police officers to his home over the post.
“Good afternoon my good people from Kabba. Kakun Omofa Kayode John carried police officer come to my house yesterday night because of truth is better,” he wrote.
“I know who show you my house. I know I’m not the only person talking about politician. How many times PDP no carry police come find anybody when I post Hon. Teejay Yusuf? People insult him, he no carry police. Why me? I want to know.”
