The Chairman, Omoluabi Progressives, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, has revealed that several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been left in tears following the exit of former Governor of Osun State and immediate past Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, from the party.

Speaking during a radio programme on Monday, the elder statesman lamented what he described as the unfortunate treatment meted out to the former Minister of Interior, stressing that the consequences of the party’s actions were now haunting it.

“In my local government in Ilesa, I saw people placing their hands on their heads and crying, asking why Aregbesola was allowed to leave. One elderly man even came to me in tears. I told him that when they made it clear they didn’t want him anymore, he couldn’t force himself to stay,” he said.

Alhaji Azeez said the Omoluabi Progressives did not come together overnight but had been on a political journey driven by shared values and a desire to restore internal democracy within the party.

“Many of those who once opposed us are now regretting it. Some are asking why they allowed those who joined us to leave. A lot of APC members are now saying Aregbesola should have waited till the fight was over, but the truth is, he was pushed out,” he added.

He further drew a comparison with Burkina Faso, saying leadership is about performance and not just elections.

“In Burkina Faso, it was a military man that took over, but because he is young and working, many believe he was elected. That’s what performance does. It earns legitimacy,” he stated.
