Aiyedatiwa’s Senior Aide Resigns Over Alleged Discontent With Governance Style
Bode Obanla, Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (North) to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has resigned from his position amid rising concerns over alleged internal dissatisfaction within the state government.
His resignation came just 24 hours after the swearing-in of 16 new commissioners, sparking speculations of discontent over the governor’s style of leadership and recent appointments.
In a letter dated July 16 and addressed to the governor, Obanla stated that his decision to step down was to enable him focus on his personal business.
“I have handed over all government properties in my care, particularly the Hilux van attached to my office, back to the government through the office of the SSA on Community Engagement (Central),” he said.
He thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve, noting that the experience had enriched his public life.
Obanla also expressed hope that the advice and insights he gave on the developmental needs of the Northern Senatorial District would guide future government actions in the area.
However, sources close to the former aide claimed that his resignation was driven by frustration over what they described as Governor Aiyedatiwa’s “one-man show” approach, especially in making appointments without broad consultation.
“Many leaders feel sidelined. The governor is making appointments without input from key stakeholders, especially at the local government level,” a source alleged.
The source warned that more aides may resign if the situation continues, urging the governor to carry stakeholders along for the sake of party cohesion and good governance.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the governor’s office regarding the resignation.
