The Kano State Government has launched a full investigation into the deaths of two students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, who were allegedly tortured to death by senior students.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, directed the probe following a report by the school principal, Yusuf Ado Yakasai, that four junior students were lured into a hostel and violently assaulted with locally-made metal objects on Sunday night, July 14, around 11:30pm.

OSUN DEFENDER had earlier reported that the students were attacked by their seniors over allegations of involvement in “unnatural offences.”

The victims were identified as Hamza Idris (19, SS3B), Umar Yusuf (18, SS2C), Ibrahim Ibrahim (SS2B), and Aliyu M. Nasir (SS2C).

Hamza and Umar were confirmed dead at Bichi General Hospital, while Ibrahim and Aliyu are still receiving treatment and are reportedly in stable condition.

The Kano State Police Command said the assault was carried out by a group of senior students who are now in custody.

Twelve suspects have been arrested so far. They include Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, and Abubakar Abdulaziz (SS3A); Ibrahim Nura and Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, and Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D).

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, promised a thorough and transparent investigation, assuring that justice would be served.

He also advised students to report concerns to appropriate authorities rather than take laws into their own hands.

The police said investigations are ongoing and that all suspects found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
