Scott Iguma’s Lawyers Fire Back At PWAN, Insist Firm Is Behind Arrest
Lawyers representing detained activist, Scott Iguma, have accused PWAN Group of trying to cover up its role in his arrest and prosecution.
In a statement released on Friday, Iguma’s legal counsel, Law Capitol, described PWAN’s recent press release as a “media whitewash” and warned that the full truth would soon be made public.
The lawyers say the activist’s current ordeal began after PWAN and its Managing Director filed a formal petition against him, which led to his arrest.
They claim to have copies of the petition, police statements, and the charge sheet — all of which, according to them, point directly to PWAN’s involvement.
PWAN had earlier denied any hand in the arrest, claiming it never initiated or directed the detention. But Iguma’s counsel says that’s not true.
“It is a matter of public record that Mr. Iguma is a known social crusader who has consistently called out real estate companies over complaints brought to him by victims,” the firm said.
Law Capitol alleges that over 200 people had approached Iguma with complaints against PWAN — including issues of land payments with no allocation and unprocessed refunds. Some of these cases, they say, have now grown into a class action lawsuit.
The firm added that PWAN’s claim that Iguma is running a smear campaign is false and insulting.
“If PWAN is truly concerned about its image, it should withdraw the petition instead of trying to mislead the public,” the statement read.
Law Capitol insisted that truth is a complete defense to defamation, noting that their client only echoed what hundreds of Nigerians have personally reported.
“PWAN cannot claim defamation when there is overwhelming evidence and a multitude of complaints backing up what Iguma said,” the lawyers added.
The legal team promised to continue defending their client through legal means but warned they would not hesitate to reveal every document and fact if PWAN continues to deny its role.
