Ex-PDP DG Dumps Party, Says It’s Been Hijacked by Opportunists

A former Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, CID Maduabum, has resigned from the party, accusing it of being overrun by opportunists and betraying its founding principles.

Maduabum, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, announced his exit in a statement on Sunday, saying the PDP has lost its soul to “self-serving, unscrupulous elements” who are more focused on personal power than party discipline or national interest.

He described his decision as “difficult but necessary” after thorough reflection and consultation.

“The PDP today is a shadow of its former self. It has descended into chaos, internal betrayal, and systematic destruction,” he said.

The former lawmaker lamented that the party no longer tolerates voices of reason, with genuine reformers either vilified or silenced.

“I can no longer in good conscience remain in a house that has been stripped of its moral compass and overrun by opportunists,” Maduabum stated.

He announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as “the only credible democratic alternative” in the country.

“The ADC is emerging as a beacon of hope for good governance, integrity, accountability, and inclusive politics. The ADC Coalition includes progressive minded people like Mr. Peter Obi and others,” he said.

He vowed to support the ADC as a reformer determined to build a new political culture anchored on merit, discipline, youth inclusion, and national unity.

“I remain committed to the democratic ideals of justice, equity, and service to the people. The struggle to rescue Nigeria and restore its promise continues — and it begins now on a new, firmer footing,” Maduabum added.
