Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, under the umbrella of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), have provided a fresh update regarding the selection of a substantive National Chairman for the ruling party.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting with fellow governors, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, disclosed that consultations were still ongoing and no final decision had been reached on who would succeed Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as the APC National Chairman.

Uzodinma emphasised that while discussions among party leaders and stakeholders were progressing, the final decision on the matter would be taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

“It would be premature for anyone to speculate at this point. Consultations are still ongoing,” he said.

He noted that the Wednesday night meeting was part of regular consultations among APC governors, aimed at strengthening internal cohesion, reinforcing party programmes, and ensuring effective governance at both state and national levels.

He further revealed that the Forum would meet with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday.

“Tomorrow by 2 p.m., the NEC of our great party will convene to discuss matters crucial to the future of the APC and, more importantly, how best to serve Nigerians,” the PGF Chairman stated.

The position of the APC National Chairman became vacant following the resignation of Ganduje, amid mounting pressure from within and outside the party. Since then, there have been speculations and intense lobbying over who will take over the party’s leadership ahead of future electoral engagements.
