Onanuga Defends Tinubu’s $100,000 Cash Each To Super Falcons Players
- Says Multichoice Is Paying BBNaija Winner N150m
The Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has defended the award of $100,000 each to Super Falcons players.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that Tinubu on Monday bestowed the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger on the Super Falcons and the entire technical crew.
He also allocated three-bedroom apartments in Abuja to each of the players and the technical crew at the Renewed Hope Estate.
The President also directed the cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 each to the 24 players and $50,000 to each of the 11-man technical crew.
Meanwhile, the president’s reward of $100,000 to each of the Super Falcons’ players has attracted mixed reactions.
While some Nigerians said it would inspire other athletes representing the country to put in their best to win laurels, others queried the president’s decision to reward the players with such a “huge” sum of money amidst the inability of most states to pay the N70,000 minimum wage, and at a time most Nigerians are grappling with socio-economic challenges
But Onanuga, while defending the President’s gesture, said the organiser of reality show, Big Brother Naija, is going to pay the winner of the show N150m, wondering why some Nigerians were not ‘appreciative’ of the President.
Onanuga in a post on X, wrote, “When you remember that Multichoice, the organizer of the BBNaija reality show is offering the winner ₦150 million grand prize, you wonder why some Nigerians are unappreciative of President Tinubu’s rewards to the Super Falcons. President Tinubu has rewarded excellence, creativity, hard work, soccer artistry, and the undying Nigerian spirit.”
