There was palpable fear on Tuesday in Imobi, a rural community in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, after a wandering elephant reportedly attacked and killed a local farmer.

The elephant, said to have strayed from one of the government’s reserved forests, allegedly trampled the unsuspecting farmer who was working on his farm at the time of the incident.

Confirming the tragic development, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, said the ministry had been alerted and officials were already heading to the affected community.

Oludotun stated, “Yes, we are aware and we are already on our way to the community.”

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the incident remained sketchy.

However, residents in the area are said to be gripped with fear, with many expressing concern over the presence of wild animals near farmlands.
