Nigerians Hungry, Unhappy With Tinubu’s Govt – Fayemi
Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying Nigerians are grappling with hunger and financial hardship, making it unlikely for them to support the government in the next general election.
In a video seen by OSUN DEFENDER, Fayemi, who spoke in Yoruba, decried the economic situation in the country, citing poor infrastructure and what he described as federal neglect of key development projects.
“Except we are deceiving ourselves, Nigerians are not happy with the Federal Government because of hunger and lack of money,” he said.
The former governor expressed displeasure over the poor condition of federal roads in Ekiti, particularly the Efon Alaaye–Erio route and the Omuo Ekiti–Ilasa–Ayedun road, lamenting the suffering of commuters.
He also faulted the Federal Government for refusing to refund the N18–20 billion his administration spent on the Ado–Iyin road project, saying the money could have been channelled into other road works.
“The Federal Government said they didn’t send us to do the road, so no refund was made. If they had refunded the money, wouldn’t the governor have used it to do phase two of the road?” he asked.
Fayemi made the remarks at a public event attended by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, and lawmaker Tope Longe.
While acknowledging the need for reforms like fuel subsidy removal, he faulted their “precipitate” execution without adequate cushioning measures to mitigate the hardship caused by inflation and rising living costs.
He further raised concerns about delays in releasing funds to federal ministries and agencies, stressing that good intentions are not enough to achieve meaningful governance.
