Tinubu Hosts D’Tigress At Presidential Villa, Awards National Honours, $100,000 Each
President Bola Tinubu on Monday hosted Nigeria’s national female basketball team, D’Tigress, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, rewarding them for their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
The President conferred national honours on each member of the team and announced a cash reward of $100,000 for every player.
Members of the technical crew will also receive $50,000 each in appreciation of their contribution to the team’s success.
At the reception, Tinubu praised the players for their resilience, discipline, and commitment to representing Nigeria with pride, describing them as role models for the nation’s youth.
The Nigerian team defeated Mali 78–64 in the final on Sunday night at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, claiming their seventh AfroBasket title overall and fifth consecutive win in the competition.
The reception comes a week after President Tinubu hosted the Super Falcons, who recently secured their tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
