Lagos Corps Member Cries Out, Accuses NYSC Of Withholding Certificate For Criticising Tinubu
- As Sowore Vows Justice
A National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member in Lagos, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” has cried out over alleged withholding of her discharge certificate by officials of the scheme in what she claims is retaliation for her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government.
It would be recalled that Ms Uguamaye earlier this year in a viral TikTok video criticised the Tinubu administration and described Lagos as “smelling state”
In a recent video, she alleged that her Local Government Inspector, LGI, refused to clear her for April, despite her being present on the scheduled date.
In a clip shared on Instagram on Saturday, the corps member claimed she was repeatedly instructed to “go to the back” during the clearance exercise until her file was eventually seized.
She also alleged the official refused to attend to her and ordered her to leave.
According to Ms Uguamaye, she was later informed she would not be issued her discharge certificate on the grounds that she missed the April clearance, a claim she strongly denies.
“I genuinely wish I wasn’t a Lagos State corps member because it’s a waste of my time,” she wrote on social media, adding that she has decided to put the matter behind her.
Meanwhile, human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has promised to ensure the corps member gets justice.
Sowore, in a post on his X account on Saturday, said he would have stood by Ms Uguamaye to ensure she got her discharge certificate if he hadn’t been arrested and detained by the police.
He wrote, “This is so sad, Rita Uguamaye “Raye.” I was ready to stand with you to ensure you received your @officialnyscng discharge certificate, but I was detained in Abuja by the criminal @officialABAT regime.
“We promised to see that you got justice and we will not give up until we all win and defeat this oppressive system. It was your courage that pushed the authorities to raise your colleagues’ allowance to ₦77,000 monthly. We will not abandon you. Your fight is our fight.”
