ADC Becoming Viable Alternative To Ruling Party – Ex-HoR Candidate
- Slams APC Over Harassment Of Aregbesola
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ekiti South Federal Constituency in the 2019 House of Representatives election, Prince Abiodun Adetimehin, has declared that the ADC is on course to become Nigeria’s strongest opposition platform and a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Adetimehin described as “encouraging” the increasing migration of Nigerians with “credible identity” into the ADC in recent weeks. He noted that the influx of new members across different states signals a bright future for the party.
“The movement is encouraging, and the migration of people of credible identity into the party in the last few weeks is a positive sign. The future of the ADC is bright, and it will stand as a platform of sustainable hope and development for Nigerians,” he said.
Adetimehin strongly criticized the APC over its handling of recent by-elections, alleging widespread electoral malpractice, including vote buying.
He also condemned what he called “unimaginable harassment” of the party’s national secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, during the campaign for the ADC’s National Assembly candidate in Ogun State.
“The last bye-elections across Nigeria proved again that APC cannot win any election under a free and fair process. There were reports of vote buying, and very unimaginable was the harassment meted out to our national secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on his way to join the ADC campaign in Ogun State. This is condemnable, undemocratic, and unacceptable,” Adetimehin stated.
The former candidate urged ADC members nationwide to remain steadfast and avoid internal wrangling that could slow the party’s growth. He emphasized unity, resilience, and collective commitment as the keys to positioning ADC as the true voice of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Members should remain resolute and committed to the unity and progress of the party. Abstaining from any form of division will help the growth of the ADC. I urge everyone to recommit themselves to building the party into Nigeria’s main opposition platform, with the goal of winning the 2027 presidential election. This is possible, especially as the APC government continues to show lack of empathy and poor understanding of what good governance entails,” he added.
Adetimehin also applauded the ADC leadership in Ekiti State, particularly the state chairman, Hon. Ilesanmi Omotayo, and former deputy governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, for their roles in strengthening the party. He described the collaboration of stakeholders as “non-negotiable” for the growth and progress of the ADC.
“With the dedication of leaders like Hon. Omotayo and Prof. Olusola, and the collaboration of other committed stakeholders, ADC in Ekiti State is on the right path. Our collective support to move the party forward is non-negotiable,” he said.
Adetimehin expressed optimism that the ADC would leverage the failures of the APC-led government and present itself as a credible alternative that can deliver genuine governance, empathy, and development for Nigerians.
